how do we make IP65 waterproof tests on our RGB LED whip lights
11-05-2024
As LED whip lights are often installed onto 4x4 vhicles for off-road applications, they are must be up to IP65 waterproof basically.
Here are two methods we use to perform a waterproof test on our RGB LED whip lights:
Method 1: Water immersing Test
Prepare a bucket : Fill a bucket with water enough and spray the water onto the LED whip lights like rains.
Seal the controller box (if not waterproof): If your LED whip lights have a separate controller box that isnt waterproof, youll need to seal it in a waterproof bag to prevent water damage during the test.
Submerge the LED whip lights: Carefully submerge the LED whip lights completely underwater in the bucket. Make sure to hold them down for a few minutes to simulate potential exposure time to water.
Power on the lights: While the lights are submerged, turn them on and observe their operation and flashing colors. Change colors and modes to see if there are any disruptions or malfunctions.
Inspect for leaks: After a few minutes, turn off the lights and take them out of the water. Inspect the lights carefully for any signs of water leakage inside the plastic housing. You might see water droplets or fogging within the clear tubing.
Method 2: Spray Test
Prepare a spray bottle: Fill a spray bottle with clean water.
Set up the LED whip lights: Find a location where you can safely spray the lights with water. You can hang them or lay them on a flat surface.
Spray the lights thoroughly: Spray the LED whip lights from all directions with a continuous stream of water for a few minutes. Simulate different scenarios like rain or splashing water.
Power on the lights: While spraying the lights, turn them on and observe their lighting. Change colors and modes to see if there are any disruptions or malfunctions.
Inspect for leaks: After spraying, turn off the lights and inspect them for any signs of water leakage inside the housing.
Attention:
Never submerge or spray the LED whip lights while they are plugged into a power source. This can lead to electrical shock hazards.
Dry the lights completely before turning them back on. Water residue can cause electrical shorts.
We also test the lights in different water temperatures (hot and cold) to see if theres any impact on their performance.
By following these methods, we can effectively test the waterproof capabilities of your RGB
LED whip lights and ensure they can withstand any potential waterproof defects.
