Simple introduction about diecasting and tooling mold in Teehon workshops

01-03-2025

For most of the automotive led work lights on the market, their exterior housings are made of die-cast aluminum housings. Teehonled has its own injection mold workshop that combines the high volume capabilities of die casting with precision and design flexibility provided by advanced tooling. This process is very important for making durable, streamlined and compact housing structures for varied led work lamps or long led light bars for automotive.

injection mold workshop

The injection mold workshop is set up for designing and fabricating the complex die casting molds (dies). These dies are critical for achieving the desired shape, dimensions, and surface finish of the aluminum housing.

Before making tooling molds, some CAD/CAM software will be used to design the drawings for molds. The drawings will be discussed about and modified in terms of part geometry and complexity, gating and venting systems.cooling heatsinks, etc. After the final decisions are reached, 3D samples will be printed for the engineers to check any unexpected mistakes.

Then High precision CNC machining might adopted to manufacture some precision mold components from tool steel to ensure accuracy and durability.

part of diecasting workshop

In the diecasting workshop, the tooling molds will be cleaned, lubricated and preheated to needed temperature. Molten aluminum alloy will be injected into the mold cavity under high pressure. The molten aluminum solidifies quickly within the mold and form a rough housing. The tooling mold is opened, the solidified housing will be ejected. Workers will work on the ejected housings by trimming and removing excess materials and go on with other finishing treatment such as deburring, further maching to achieve precise dimensions before power coating and anodizing.

During the process, stringent dimension inspections, visual inspections and even x-ray inspections will be conducted to avoid any surface defects. Most often, vacuum die casting solution is introduced to minimize porosity and improve the mechanical properties of the housings. Effective cooling of the tooling mold is essential to control the solidification process and reduce structure defects.

Die casting technology can produce intricate shapes and features with high tolerances. So we adopts it for the cost-effective mass production of large volume exterior housings for our led work lamps quickly.
