automotive lamps market keeps growing with higher LED penetration rate

The 14th Auto Lamp Industry Development Forum and the 5th Shanghai International Auto Lamp Exhibition (ALE) was held in Shanghai Automobile Exhibition Center on March 21, 2019. More than 100 automotive lamps companies and many visitors from China and other countries came to that show, proving the flourishing market of the automotive lamps around the world.

ALE 2019 continues its attention on the supply chain of OE automotive lighting, covering drive IC, package, lamp and more. International enterprises like OSRAM, NICHIA, LUMILEDS, Seoul Semiconductor, DOMINANT, HELLA and VALEO, as well as Taiwan companies like EVERLIGHT, MACROBLOCK, LITE-ON and LEXTAR and Chinese manufacturers HONGLI, SUNPU LED, XINGYU, ANRUI, YULIANG LED and Zhejiang TIANCHONG were all there at ALE 2019. Although CREE did not come this year, the quick development of company in automotive lighting market in 2018 are still attracting. Cree and Valeo have cooperating in developing the high definition (HD) LED array, which has been introduced to Valeo Picture Beam Monolithic.
LED penetration rates grows in the automotive lamps market

Comparing with the last automotive lamp shows, ALE 2019 attracted much more LED package manufacturers and more visitors. Also, LED light products were popular in both interior and exterior automotive lighting applications. These mean the more increasing LED penetration rate in the automotive lighting market.

With well-known diversity and innovation, LED tail lamp is very hot sell in ALE 2019. Currently automotive tail lamps are not under control by any law and regulation, thus manufacturers has more flexibility to design automotive tail lamps. Besides, customers requesting more added value of vehicles keeps rising, which needs automotive tail lamp products to be more different and customized.

As a new payer, LG Innotek showed its latest rear lamp products. The lamps combine LED with flexible light guide to achieve OLED effect, which vividly showed the flexibility of rear lamp shape.

HELLA brought an actual OLED rear lamp that has been used in Audi A8, according to industry sources.

LUMILEDS showed several new products with stylish tail lamp, LUXEON 3D. The tail lamp uses a 3D LED solution that meets the expectation of the automobile companies for their future lamp design.  Besides , LUMILEDS’ head lamp products tend to be more compact and flat in terms of appearance. 

Featuring in projection function, signal lamp of OSRAM can display direction on the ground. OSRAM also showed its highly accurate product, Hybrid EYIYOS. The product comprising 2048 individually addressable pixels is be suited to ADB, low beam, symbol, logo and driving lane projection.

Nowadays, Mini LED has not yet been used in automotive lighting; however, EVERLIGHT, LITEON and LEXTAR showed conceptual Mini LED products at ALE 2019.

Featuring many functions, EVERLIGHT Mini LED tail lamp product will come into use in 2020.

LITE-ON showed Mini LED and Micro LED lighting source solution for innovative application. Its Mini LED matrix tail lamp module can express more information besides lighting function, which will further improve driving safety.

Local package manufacturers in mainland China are strengthening their own technical expertise and actively developing OE automotive lighting market.

HONGLI showed automotive LED package product which passed certification of IATF16949 and has passed the complete reliability test of AECQ-102&IEC60810.

SUNPU LED brought flip chip LED series products with amazing lighting and heat dissipation performance. They can be used in automotive head lamp.

XINGYU showed several types of automotive rear lamps combing different functions into one.

The global economy has been influenced by the trade dispute and the automobile market started to be poorer. The year-round automobile sales in China also slightly drop. Despite the total sluggish automotive market, NEV production and sales still grow rapidly, and the demand for luxury automobiles in the Chinese market also increase greatly, which result climbing LED penetration rate. So the automotive LED light market value and volume will remain in an climb in the next few years.

Regarding exterior lighting, the output value of LED head lamp is estimated to increase in the next few years as the price of high-power LED falls and the market share keeps rising. Besides, for the reason ofuse of sequential design, LED penetration rate and production value of direction light will increase soon as well. For interior lighting, as automotive panel manufacturers enlarge capacity, product cost effectiveness will improve quickly. With limited cost price, panel becomes the product that can improve automotive supporting specification. As a result, it can be observed that interior panel size gets increasingly larger and the installation of finished automobiles continually go up. That means requiremet for LED will keep growing.
