According to world survey conducted by TrendForce, the penetration rate of LED headlights was above 60% for automotive in the year 2021. In terms of new energy vehicles, it penetration rate exceeded 90%. It was estimated that the global automotive LED market would increase 31.% to US$ 3.51 billion in the year 2021. The said automotive LED lights mainly cover external lightnings such as LED lead lamp, LED turn signals and warning lamps, LED work lamps or panel lights for auto tuning besides internal ambient display panels.

When the LED chips become smaller, LED headlights are possible to embed more smart applications. The newest adaptive driving beam (ADB) headlights are designed based on matrix LEDs with 12-100 LEDs. Besides improving road illumination, ADB headlights can prevent glare from the eyesights of drivers in incoming cars. The market penetration rate of ADB headlight is expected to be up to 6.5% in the year 2025 from 2.1% in the year 2021. More and more auto makers have introduced this type of newest headlights to their new EV vehicles, such as Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Volkswagen, Volvo, Tesla, Lexus, Mazda, Opel and WEY.

As more and more new energy vehicles are equipped with smart lights, the users ask for more and more interior features. While more and more electronic components are installed to achieve more features, the electromagnetic interference (EMI)issue will occur on electronic circuit. Facing this problem, LED driver ic maker Macroblock developed a newest automotive IC MBI6659Q.  Macroblock added the driver current to 2.5A and voltage to 45V after it streamline the PCBA circuitry and install IC with the jitter function to minimize EMI. In doing so, the improved LED drivers ic without EMI issue can be used for daytime running light, positioning light, fog light, rear light, brake light and interior ambient light.

In addition to LED headlight,  automotive LED display also sees the growth in automotive LED market. Direct-view micro/mini-LED display and LED-based local-dimming backlight can be seen in dashboard, center consoles and head-up displays (HUDs). LED panel manufacturers say future directions of automotive LED display cover 1.5 meter-wide full-width display, morphing display and transparent display and high resolution (250 ppi) display.

During the covid-19 pandemics, more and more consumers will prefer new energy vehicles. The increasing market will require more EV vehicles equipped with smart automotive lighting and display applications so as to increase the sales of automotive LED lights manufacturers.
