The latest AL5873Q driver ic designed for automotive real lamps
Diodes Incorporated has launched its latest three-channel linear LED driver ic AL5873Q in order to simplify the designs for automotive rear led lights.

Designed for 125°C ambient temperature operation, this AEC-Q100 Grade 1 certified driver ic can save energy and space so as to reduce the overall system costs while meeting the requirement for next generation vehicle design.

Each channel of the AL5873Q ic can work up up to 250mA set via two reference resistors, which are connected to REF1 and REF2 pins of the said driver ic. Two different LED current levels achieves more streamlined lighting systems, which make the LEDs more suitable for rear lamps such as  tail and brake lamps.

The AL5873Q has analog and master PWM dimming control functionality, supporting a maximum PWM frequency of 1kHz. The PWM dimming function is so important to improve current accuracy when LEDs are being driven at low current levels. The current on each channel is regulated to within a ±4% tolerance, which allows better channel matching in the rear combination lamps. To save power, the AL5873Q goes into standby mode if no PWM signal is detected.

The AL5873Q driver ic has built-in protection features with a bidirectional (input/output) fault pin which indicates any faults and allows up to four devices to have their fault pins connected together, so that any faults found are commonly reported. As part of its safety features, an internal junction temperature monitoring circuit reduces the LED current if its temperature is too high. Also, the driver ic also has other important embedded protection mechasnisms such as thermal shutdown, LED string short circuit protection, input low voltage lockout, etc.
