Are LED Headlights Too Bright During Off-road Driving At Night

07-05-2015

An owner of the 2015 Kia K900 jeep has complained oncoming cars had been flashing at him because the LED headlights were simply too bright.

The 16 LED lights used in the Kia K900 LED headlight system is made up of four low-beam LEDs on each side, making the lights look like four individual lights instead of one big bulb. The car sold in January 2015 is interesting because it uses Dynamic Bending headlights  According to Kia, LED lights are also used for the car Daytime Running Lamps (DRL), LED fog lights, turn signal indicators, and Blind Spot Detection System.

While auto LED lights can be great in ensuring the road is bright enough, it could be blinding for drivers in the opposite direction. The high beam lights in the 2015 Kia K900 were compared to "Rikers Island searchlights during a prison break" by the author of the article.

Perhaps something automotive LED light manufacturers need to consider when designing the lights.
