The latest LED hedlights from Osram are installed onto new Audi A8 for the first time

30-03-2018
World-famous car maker Audi introduces the latest technology of Osram Opto Semiconductors to the front lighting of its new flagship. The Oslon Compact PL for adaptive front lighting has been installed in the Audi A8 for field testing. The Oslon Black Flat S in its 3-chip type provides an extended beam range. Besides, the tried and tested Topled is used in the car daytime running lights (DRLs).

The Oslon Compact PL for adaptive front LED lighting has been installed in the Audi A8 for the first time, the Oslon  Black Flat S in its 3-chip version provides an extended beam range, and the tried and tested Topled is used in the daytime running lights of that car.

The attractive feature of the Audi A8 HD matrix headlights is that for the first time the Oslon Compact PL LEDs are arranged in two lines. In doing so, other road users are masked out even more exactly by the light beam and are not glittered. The Oslon Compact PL has an electrically insulated thermal connection. By using correct PCBA technologies the thermal connection can be greatly improved, which leads to a higher luminous flux performance. At the same time, notchless chip technology allows the optical systems to be more efficient. After the market launch end of 2017, it is being used for the first time in the new Audi A8 as adaptive high beam and low beam.

The Oslon Black Flat S family, which also features notchless chip technology and is also celebrating its first demonstration, has now been installed in the Audi A8 for the first time in its 3-chip model. The singly controllable chips allow for the light beam to be adjusted to the different situation, e.g. in city traffic or on the highway, increasing visual comfort.

Thanks to the new LED technology, the lights now adapt even more precisely to complex traffic situations. The surrounding area is lighted in the best possible way without blinding other road users.
