Taiwanese LED manufacturers have focused more on Micro LED and Mini LED technologies to help them compete with the players from manland China and Korea. However, Korean and Japanese LED suppliers, aim at the latest applications such as UV LEDs and LEDs with wavelengths that are similar to naturel light.

LED players from Europe and US, such as  Osram, GE and Cree have sold their lighting business in the past two years after business restructure as most of them lost money on LED lighting business.

Osram tried to move into a high tech photonic company focusing on semiconductor, advanced automotive applications and digital lighting management. Currently,German-based Osram continues to suffer from weak business performance since the second half of 2018. Recently, Osram is still negotiating with Austria AMS for public transmission.

Cree also had sold its lighting business to Ideal Industries in 2019 to dedicate to its Wolfspeed business. The company plans to become a semiconductor powerhouse in silicon carbide and GaN-on-silicon-carbide technologies.

Despite that Chinese LED factories can continue receive subsidies from the government for the time being, they also struggle in the poor market, some companies are facing shart drop in their business.

With government subsidies, most of the Chinese companies must keep enlarging their production capacity. These over capacities result in lowering the price of LED products so as to cause more business drop in the end.
