Yutong Group, Chinese large-scale industrial manufacturer of commerical vehicles that specialize in electric buses is working with CREE and StarPower Semiconductor to use silicon carbide-based power solutions for faster, smaller, lighter and more powerful electronic systems in commercial electric vehicles.

Based on the silicon carbide-based inverters, Yutong Group will make their first electric bus in China market, using silicon carbide in its powertrain. The power module technology from StarPower and silicon carbide-based MOSFET from Cree can not only extend driving range but also lower weight in the same space.

Cree is currently at the global transition from silicon to silicon carbide. In the coming year 2022, Cree will open the world largest silicon carbide factory in New York, nowadays, it is greatly enlarging production capacity of  silicon carbide crystal in its factories in North Carolina. Also, it is providing a complete set of silicon carbide and GaN (Gallium nitride) power and RF (radio frequency) solutions at its Wolfspeed business unit in USA.
