The IES and IUVA are cooperating to establish American National Standards for UVC led products
The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and the International Ultraviolet Association (IUVA) have worked together to establish American National Standards for the measurement and tests on UVC led performance for virus disinfection.

The cooperation of IES and IUVA will improve applications of UVC LED in the healthcare devices, the established test standards will cover light sources of UV lamps and UVC LEDs for UV disinfecting devices.

Research teams from several countries had proved that UVC radiation can kill virus to avoid the infection of covid-19. The IES and IUVA agree that it is necessary to provide publicly accepted and comparable performance test results for end users to understand.

The first version of American National Standards (ANSI standards) is Approved Method for Electrical and Ultraviolet Measurement of Discharge Sources. It will introduce laboratory procedures for the measurement and characterization of low-pressure mercury and other discharge sources. The second version is Approved Method for Electrical and Ultraviolet Measurement of Solid-State Sources, which will do the same elaboration for UV-LED components.
