Automotive LED market keeps booming in 2021 in terms of car LED headlamps and back-lighting display

The ranking about market share and revenue of top ten car led suppliers between 2020 and 2021
In the year 2021, the LED headlights have taken more than 60% of global market share in car lights, and the global penetration rate in new energy vehicles (NEV) exceeds 90% according to the latest market survey of TrendForce. It is estimated that the global value of automotive LED market will be up to $3.51 billion in 2021, a 31.% growth than the previous year. LED headlights and automotive LED display stands the strongest for growth in the car LED market.

In the year 2021, in terms of revenue rankings of car LED manufacturers, the top three companies are ams-OSRAM, Nichia, and Lumileds. These three players cover a combined market share of 71.7%. Among them,ams-OSRAM has gained fame for stable product quality, excellent lighting efficiency, and cost performance as best choice for high-end cars and new energy vehicles, including high-flying Tesla among its customers. This year,  car LED revenue of ams-OSRAM grew rapidly so as to reach US$1.304 billion for an annual growth rate of approximately 40.9%. PixCell LED from Samsung LED has also been successfully installed into the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, achieving its car LED revenue growth to US$121 million with market share up to 3.4%.

In terms of automotive backlighting display including dashboard and central console displays, not only are more and more car models equipped with automotive display products, the standard is moving towards larger displays with the current mainstream automotive panel product size at 12.3-inches. Further taking into account features popular in the current market such as HDR, local dimming, and wide color gamut shows that automotive LED market demand will maintain a rapid growth trend in the next five years. This will benefit the revenue of Nichia and Stanley with this year’s market share for these two companies expected to reach 23.1% and 6.6%, respectively.

Now more and more car models are installed with automotive back lighting display, such as dashboard and central console displays, the popular features are HDR, local dimming, and wide color gamut. It proves that automotive LED market demand will still be strong and strong in next five years. Nichia and Stanley will benefit from the booming market, both of them are expected to reach 23.1% and 6.6% respectively.

Based on its proprietary WICOP solutions, Seoul Semiconductor has taked 10% market share in the market of car LED headlight, whose relevant lights bave been introduced to the auto makers sich as  Changan Automobile, SAIC-GM-Wuling, and Nio. It is estimated that the revenue of Seoul Semiconductor might reach US$155 million with a market penetration rate of 4.4% this year. Noticeably, thanks to the European customers, Dominant has the highest revenue growth rate at 46.3% among top ten players.
