How can we choose CNC machined aluminum housings or 6063 diecast ones for led work lights

6063 aluminum housings are used more to make led work lights
It is well known that aluminum alloy housings are actually heatsinks for the excellent heat dissipation of led work lights. Basically, there are two types of aluminum housings that included CNC machines and 6063 diecast aluminum housings, which are popular for choices based on their durability and mechanical properties for different applications.


CNC machined aluminum housing features in exceptional precision,intricate designs and complex shapes. Also, the superior surface finish has smooth,high quality surface that enhance the appearance and durability. However, the disadvantage is its higher cost and potentially lower production scale due to the setup time and higher labor cost involved.


In comparison, 6063 diecast aluminum housings are relatively cost-effective because it is much more suitable for mass production by pouring molten aluminum into a tooling mould. Although diecast aluminum housings look a little coarse compared with smooth CNC machined alloy housings, it can produce complex shapes and intricate details. Sometimes, 6063 diecast aluminum housings may have porosity problems that  may have adverse influence on the strength and durability of the aluminum housing.


It is hard to define which solution is the best for the making of led work lamps. The best choice depends on your specific requirements such as design,production volume, performance requirement.


Both types of aluminum housings can provide excellent thermal conductivity, but the specific design and cooling features can influence heat dissipation. Anyway, before your making the decisions, you need to put the following points into consideration, such as design complexity, production volume, surface finish, production cost and efficiency of thermal management. Careful considerations of the above factors will ensure that the selected type of aluminum housing achieve optimal performance and durability.
