How can we do to extend the illumination distance of laser pod lights but without eye glare

29-11-2025

high intensity laser pod light can shoot very far away at night
Basically, a high intensity laser pod light can shoot very far away at night, however, people still wants it to illuminate more far away for some specific applications such as led search lights for rescue. However, there is a challenge that maximum distance of pencil beams without optical cutoff from “true”laser pod lights will result in blinding eye glare.

In order to achieve maximum distance legally and safely, we need to consider the following details.

We suggest installing a shaped len or internal shutter to “cut off”the top of the pencil beam. SAE certified auxiliary high beam helps the laser light shine far down the road but prevents it from shining higher into their windshields.

If you already have off-road laser pod lights and want to reduce their glare, you have few choices as follows because the optics are "hollow in."

1)  You can fabricate a small metal or plastic shield that bolts to the top of the light housing and extends forward. This physically blocks upward stray light.

2)  An amber cover on the optics will not change the beam shape, but yellow light is less painful to human eye than daytime light or blue laser light. It reduces the dazzle effect for others.

Proper installation is also crucial for long distance without glare. Mount the laser pod lights lower at the bumper or fog pock level, which guarantees they will not hit oncoming eyes.Lower lights can be aimed slightly flat and still stay below eye level for long distance.

If the above-mentioned mounting is not suitable, we can choose “wall method”aiming solution. Park your vehicle 25 feet away from a flat wall on level ground.  Measure the height from the ground to the center of your pod light.Mark that height on the wall with tape.Turn the laser pod lights on. The hot top of the pencil beam should be 4 inches below your tape mark. This ensures the pencil beam dips downward over distance, keeping it out of eyes while illuminating the road surface.

We do not suggest using laser pod lights on public highway for long distance illumination. You can choose DOT-certified high beam driving lights , which can achieve 8-90% of the illumination distance of a laser pod light but with legal and safe beam patterns without eye glare.
